Leep vs WHOOP 5.0 and MG

A one-off ring against a membership band

How the £199 Leep Ring compares with WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG on cost, sleep and recovery tracking, women's health and comfort

Written by Leep. We make the Leep Ring, so we stick to published specs and prices, link our sources and say where the other device is the better choice.

Leep vs WHOOP 5.0 and MG

The short answer

WHOOP is the stronger choice for training: strain and recovery coaching, 14+ days of battery you can charge on the wrist, cycle and pregnancy insights on every plan, and ECG on its top tier. But it only works with a membership of £169–£349 a year, and stops recording if you stop paying. The Leep Ring costs £199 once, is a 2.5–6 g ring rather than a wrist band, and covers sleep, heart rate and HRV with no fees. Choose WHOOP for athletic coaching, or Leep for sleep and recovery tracking without a subscription.

Leep and WHOOP both track sleep, heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV) to tell you how well you are recovering, but they are built very differently. WHOOP is a screenless sensor worn on a strap, sold only as an annual membership, and aimed squarely at training. The Leep Ring is a titanium ring you buy once for £199, aimed at understanding and improving your sleep.

Below we compare cost, comfort, battery life, tracking and women's health as of October 2026. Looking at rings instead? See Leep vs Oura Ring 5 and Leep vs RingConn Gen 3.

Meet the devices

Leep Ring

our device

The Leep Ring is a British-designed titanium smart ring that tracks sleep, heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen (SpO2), skin temperature, activity and stress. It costs £199 ($199 in the US) with no subscription, weighs 2.5–6 g depending on size and is 2.22 mm at its thinnest. Battery life is up to 8 days, with a charging case that holds 60+ days of backup power, and it is water resistant to 50 m.

WHOOP

WHOOP sells two devices, WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG, both launched in May 2025. You don't buy the hardware: it comes with a membership. WHOOP One costs £169 a year ($199 in the US), Peak £229 ($239) and Life £349 ($359), and Life is the plan that includes the MG with its ECG clasp. The sensor has no screen and can be worn on the wrist, the bicep or in WHOOP Body clothing. It lasts 14+ days on a charge and is water resistant to 10 m.

What Leep does

Leep is built sleep-first. Its sleep insights follow World Sleep Society guidelines and focus on trends over weeks rather than single nights. Heart rate, HRV, temperature and activity all feed into one question: how well you are sleeping and recovering, and what is affecting it.

Everything in the Leep app is included in the £199 price, with no tiers or add-ons, so you never lose access to your data. The ring syncs with Apple Health and Google Fit, so workouts recorded elsewhere can sit alongside your sleep data. Because it is a ring, there is no strap to wear in bed or swap for nights out.

What WHOOP does

WHOOP turns its data into three daily numbers: sleep, recovery and strain. It coaches you on how hard to train and how much sleep you need, with a Sleep Planner, a haptic wake alarm, VO2 max, heart-rate zones, a Strength Trainer and AI coaching on every plan. Peak adds the Health Monitor (live heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, blood oxygen and skin temperature), a real-time Stress Monitor and Healthspan, WHOOP's estimate of your pace of ageing. Life adds an on-demand ECG and, in the UK, irregular heart rhythm notifications, plus Blood Pressure Insights, a beta wellness estimate calibrated with a cuff.

Women's health is a real strength. Every plan includes Menstrual Cycle Insights, which predict your period and adjust strain and sleep advice by phase, plus pregnancy and postpartum insights. Since August 2026 WHOOP can also share your overnight temperature with Natural Cycles, an FDA-cleared birth control app (the first year of Natural Cycles is free for new users).

The trade-off is the membership. Plans are usually paid yearly, there are no part-year refunds, and once a membership ends WHOOP stops collecting and analysing your data; your past data stays viewable.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Leep Ring cheaper than WHOOP?

Yes. The Leep Ring costs £199 once, with no subscription. WHOOP's device comes with a membership that costs £169 (One), £229 (Peak) or £349 (Life) a year in the UK, or $199–$359 in the US. Over three years that is £507–£1,047 for WHOOP, compared with £199 for Leep.

Does WHOOP work without a membership?

No. WHOOP says that once your membership ends it will no longer collect, upload or analyse your data, although you can still view your past data. The Leep Ring has no membership, so it keeps working with every feature included.

Which has the longer battery life, Leep or WHOOP?

WHOOP lasts 14+ days and, on Peak and Life, can be charged while you wear it with its slide-on PowerPack. The Leep Ring lasts up to 8 days and comes with a charging case that holds 60+ days of backup power.

Does WHOOP track periods? Does Leep?

WHOOP includes Menstrual Cycle Insights, pregnancy and postpartum insights on every plan, and since August 2026 it can share data with Natural Cycles, an FDA-cleared birth control app. The Leep Ring does not offer menstrual cycle, pregnancy or fertility tracking.

Is a ring or a wrist band better for sleep tracking?

Both can track sleep well: they measure heart rate, HRV and movement overnight. A ring is much lighter (Leep weighs 2.5–6 g, the WHOOP sensor about 26.5 g plus its strap) and many people find it more comfortable in bed. Leep and WHOOP have not been tested against each other, so comfort, cost and the features you want are the main differences.

Can WHOOP take an ECG?

Yes, with the WHOOP MG on the Life plan (£349 a year), which has an on-demand ECG and, in the UK, irregular heart rhythm notifications. WHOOP One and Peak do not. The Leep Ring does not have ECG.

Is the Leep Ring a good WHOOP alternative?

It is if your focus is sleep and recovery and you don't want a membership: Leep tracks sleep, heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen and temperature for £199 once. If you want daily strain targets, training coaching or women's health features, WHOOP offers more, as long as you keep paying for it.

Can I return them if they don't suit me?

The Leep Ring has no-quibble returns within 30 days, with a prepaid label for UK returns. WHOOP offers returns within 30 days of receipt for a refund minus shipping both ways. WHOOP's annual plans have no part-year refunds after that.
